Wide glides tend to handle a little squirrely when compared to their narrow glide cousins.
The skinny 21" tire contributes to the poor handling because it has such a small footprint.
An un-braced Wide Glide will go into a high speed wobble much easier than a narrow glide.
I'm talking about the 41mm Wide Glide, I have no experience with the 49mm.
I'm in the process right now of getting rid of the 41mm Wide Glide front end with the 21" wheel from my bike and replacing it with a 39mm narrow glide with a 19" wheel.
I agree with some of the handling and I was never a fan of the narrow 21". As others have asked - unpopular compared to what.
Popularity is a regional thing. In my area WideGlides still bring good money. Probably the least popular or valuable (compared to original price) are Sportsters of any type, V-Rods, Dueces, Standard SuperGlides, then StreetBobs. Again it's always a regional thing. I will not buy the models mentioned for resale, but I will buy WideGlides.

I don't buy motorcycles for "resale", I buy what I want to ride.
I've never given a second thought to what it'll be worth when I'm done with it because when I'm done with it, it'll be completely worn out like my FXR was when I sold it with 300,000 + miles on it.
Popular doesn't mean much to me either, otherwise I'd be rollin' around on some big ol' tub"O"**** bagger.

Good for you. I have a forever 1980 FXB, and my 09 Ultra. Aside from those, as my hobby, I buy bikes in need, make them right ride them and enjoy them, and when the fun runs out I sell them. To each there own. The question was WideGlides being unpopular and here, they are still popular. FXRs are cool too.

Thanks for the input , I was thinking about a brace for it.

A brace would be a big help for sure, another thing would be, whenever you need new tires, get the widest 21"tire that'll fit your wheel, it's not a lot but it'll get a little more rubber on the ground.
