Aftermarket parts maybe? Also I think the softail is more desireable (in some cases) because of the FL platform. However, as a long time softail owner I always desire the rubber mount set up as I get to higher speeds!!

the early wide glide was the last of the real rigid mounted motor / rear spring shock bikes - by the time the aftermarket came up with shocks that would ride and allow the bike to grip the road correctly - the bike was past tense

the introduction of rubber mounted bikes took the want out of that model

86 wideglide...4 speed rotary top transmission, shovelhead starter...both can be troublesome at times...not a lot of die-hards left that actually want a 4 speed.

Wide glides tend to handle a little squirrely when compared to their narrow glide cousins.
The skinny 21" tire contributes to the poor handling because it has such a small footprint.
An un-braced Wide Glide will go into a high speed wobble much easier than a narrow glide.

I'm talking about the 41mm Wide Glide, I have no experience with the 49mm.

I'm in the process right now of getting rid of the 41mm Wide Glide front end with the 21" wheel from my bike and replacing it with a 39mm narrow glide with a 19" wheel.
