Brand new battery in October, 320 cca. I was transporting it in the back of my jeep yesterday (bringing it home to charge) and just my luck it falls over and shorts out on the metal strip off the snow shovel for about 7 seconds and catches on fire. Scared the crap out of me. Fortunately the case did not burn through and still reads 12.85 volts. What do you think, is it trust worthy?

If the battery still reads 12.85V it may be OK...but I wouldn't use it with those damaged terminals.
You can see the kind of heat it generated...basically a dead short (arc welder)...so Its likely there may be some internal damage as well.
If there's any way to secure the cables on it , I would try to use it. You've got nothing to loose at this point. I'm pretty sure they won't warrenty it with that damage.,,,

Seriously?
He has a lot to lose...That battery can never be trusted to be safe.

I had one blow up on me in a 74 FL shovel. The positive is real close to the rear rocker box. It was a new battery and the ground is realy tight to get to when the battery is sitting where its supposed to be on the tray. so put the ground on and slid it in, then putting the chrome covers on it shifted and BANG! Just as loud as a high powered rifle going off. I was lucky i didnt get the acid in my face. It runied the chrome exhaust. I did have a water hose near by. and douched the whole bike. I have a lot more respect for batterys now...
