Default Oil Change

Ok this has probably been hashed to death. I did attempt to search the forums (probably did it wrong) and came up with nothing. I have an oil leak on my 98 RK which I think is coming from the primary cover. So I figured I would go ahead and do an oil change. Question is what kind of oil do yall use? Do you buy it from Harley or go to your local parts store and pick up some regular oil?

Thanks in advance

In my '89, I used H-D primary Chaincase Lubricant and it was different than the trans fluid. In my 2003 TC I use a newer oil called Formula that is in both the primary and tranny. I would think your 98 started with the older

Harley Primary Chaincase Lubricant

Keep in mind your clutch plates are running in the oil. It only holds about 1 Qt so save some time and trouble and get the right fluid. Worst case you end up slipping clutch plates, best case you saved a dollar....

Thats exactly why I am asking. I am sure if I went to Harley they would try to sell me the screaming eagle oil they try to push. I have a friend that just did his on a 2000 Ultra Classic. He used the same oil tin all 3 spots and I was wondering if I could do the same

Doesnt look like you can buy the primary chaincase lubricant anymore so Formula+ is the Harley Solution, they also have a synthetic version.

Your friend uses motor oil in hs tranny and primary,? Don't recommend that!!
Use should purchase a manual and use what's recommended or the equivalent.
