Heres where I am at with it, when I bought the bike off my dad, he had a thunderstar wheel on it, and everything lined up, including the speedo. now if he can make it work (didn't know how to change the oil or rebuild the carb) I dang sure should be able to. Now my only question is what in the world is the difference between the thunderstar hub and a spoked wheel hub?
Gonna see if I can et by an INDY next week and pick their brain.
My local dealer has two Chrome thunderstar wheels in stock, said something like 600 bucks. Id rather have a spoke front and I like the looks of the 60. Not a fan of the 40.

The thunderstar is a "fit-all" wheel...you buy an installation kit that makes it fit the bike you are putting it on.
You are basically looking for the rarest modern Harley wheel out there...a springer wheel that will work with a speedometer drive...even if you went with the thunderstar, harley only lists install kits back to 2000 now...which would work except for the speedo drive...I would think the same will be true for the high dollar spoke wheels that are made for a springer. They make a kit to move the speedo drive to the rear wheel, which would open up your wheel possibilities, and clean up the front end at the same time. I would call around and see if you can find anyone in your area that lases spoke wheels...talk to them on how much you can change the offset on a regular fxst wheel...then you could buy a cheap one.
When my dad installed the thunderstar wheel that was on it, he made the speedo work. Don't know how to explain what he did but it worked and looked like it was suppose to be there. even if I change the speedo out to run off the rear wheel the offsets on an FX wheel will still be off right?
gonna try to get by a local shop next week so I can pick their brain. My local dealership is worthless unless you walk in with part numbers in hand, and even then they didn't order everything.

Ive found some springer wheels, they are all 800 plus and either 40spoke or 80-100. Do you know anywhere i can get one that isnt 800? Dont care if its 84-99 or 00 plus.
