When I was contemplating what cam to put in I was told that EV-27 by several people.

I have heard several good things about the v thunder but there must be a reason that the EV-27 is the most recommended cam.

Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, you can go past the experience of others such as yourself. I am 99% certain that I will go with the EV-27.

Would be interested to know what other mods you did to your bike though, if you wouldn't mind passing that on.

I vote 3010 over the 27. I researched both of them and what I remebered was it has similar characteristics of the 27 but with smoother ramps so it's quieter. You can also buy one without a gear and save yourself some cash to put elsewhere on the bike.

Torrington cam bearing, cylinders 20 over, KB hypereutectic 9.5-1 pistons, and 30 thou head gaskets.

Personally I don't find the EV-27 all that loud.
Granted I haven't heard a bike with the v thunder but since I like hearing the motor (lets me know everything is fine) I wouldn't use it.

Interesting points regarding the EV-27 and V Thunder 3010 cams. From what I have read, they are similar in specs, cost about the same and both will provide the added power I am looking for. I can only assume that they are as reliable as one another as well.

If there are any differences, it doesn't sound as though they are significant.

Take a listen here's the 3010 on a bike with 43K miles and the top end was not rebuilt. Just new lifters and cam, old cam gear

Has a nice sound to it, not too loud but definitely a nice rumble. I'll have to listen to an EV-27 as well. I'm also thinking that the pipes will make changes to the sound as well.

Just listened to a 96 with EV-27, S & S Carby and Filter system with V & H Long Shot pipes and it sounded great at least to me anyway. Throaty but not over bearing.
