Default Extended Throttle Cables (1991 FLHTC)

So I will be posting a few different threads pertaining to installing some 10" PYO bars and what all went into that. My first main hurdle was getting the correct throttle cables. I 1st ordered some Motion Pro +6" throttle cables. Now on the site that means +6" from the STOCK LENGTH cables. What I did not know at the time, is that because I have an S&S carb (PO had this installed) the cables are no longer stock length to start with. So the cable free play is different. And I had 1st ordered the black nylon cables, then changed my mind to go with braided stainless cables. So both of those orders were the wrong cables and I have them all lubed up and cannot return them. They will either go on ebay or to a member here that may need them. To my knowledge they will only work with the CV stock carb. I called Motion Pro directly and explained to them my deal and they set me straight and gave me the right P/N's for the ones that work with the S&S carb (+6"). I was able to make the ones that were on there already work for now. Although they are at their limit it can be ridden until I get the new ones.

I've got an S&S carb and AFAIK the cables are the same the bike came with when new, back in 1990.

I added 4" risers and an S&S carb and was still using stock cables.
Granted I had to reroute them but they worked fine.

If I didn't extend the throttle and clutch cables they are at the max limit and tight. For me I rather have some room to play with. And I really wanted the stainless braided cables. Love the look. The upper brake line would however not reach (Also went with braided stainless). That is another thread coming. So I can't see how the stock brake line kit would have worked unless it was changed out previously already.

If your stock cables work but are a little tight you really don't want +6 cables!!!!
They will will be way too long.
Go with +2's.

Did your come with the S&S carb already installed? When I was on the phone with MotionPro directly, they had different free play cable lengths for the stock throttle cables vs. ones for S&S carbs. His length measurements correlated to what I was measuring as well. I could not adjust the slack out of the stock +6" cables I ordered. The ones for the S&S have less cable free play travel.

I had the +6" cables already in place and the length is fine. Just couldn't adjust out the free play cable slack.

Default Final Update.

Wanted to finish off this thread by updating with information I wish I had going into this setup. Turns out that there are 2 different cable brackets that come with the Super E carbs. One bracket works for the original throttle cables, and the other is for the S&S cables. Has I known this I could have saved a bunch of money because I bought new cables instead of a $14 bracket from S&S that would have made my initial cable purchase work just fine. Here's the bracket link for using the stock cables with the Super E carb.

Amazon.com: S&S Cycle Throttle Cable Guide/Bracket for Use with Constant Velocity Carbs 11-2338P: Automotive Amazon.com: S&S Cycle Throttle Cable Guide/Bracket for Use with Constant Velocity Carbs 11-2338P: Automotive

P/O. of my ride must have went with the S&S cables for some reason when the carb went on back in the day. Go figure!
