Default Changing an Open Primary Belt

I picked up a rock that went through my primary belt. Punched a nice hole in it. Is it possible to change the belt by just removing the crank pulley? What do you use to hold the pulley to torque it properly? Never done this before so, I'm sure I will have several questions. Thanks

As long as it didn't cut through near the edge, run it.

The damage is pretty much in the middle of the belt. I know structurally it is sound but, it looks like crap. I have a new belt on the way and I'm doing the change myself just wondering if I have to remove the clutch and hub to make the change. Also not sure about torqueing the pulley since there is not an inner primary to use a block to hold the pulley.

You can use an impact gun and you don't really need to brace the primary then. I can take my belt on and off without necessarily having to Remove the clutch basket. Your results may vary. It's quite easy though to get it on and off. Which belt drive do you have

I have the BDL 3" belt drive. So your saying that if I put a bit of lock tight on the nut and run it up with an impact, torqueing is not really necessary????

BDL website has an instructional section for all their belt drives. It will give you all the necessary info.

RTFM is always the best solution. Otherwise, I use an impact gun on the compensator nut when I have one. You can lock the pulleys with a turn buckle on a chain setup, don't see why that wouldn't work with a belt too. Then you can use a giant adjustable wrench if you have to. Lots of ways to get those things off/on.

Yes. Exactly. Use blue locktite for the front pulley but. They say red. But I would say blue for the future. Red for the clutch

just pull the motor pulley to slip the belt off and on. torque is 80 ft lb. put it in gear on a rough surface, have somebody stand on the rear brake, tighten between 4-5 grunts, manly grunts like your putting some *** into it

Not sure if you have changed it yet. I would go to BDL's site and download their instructions. The motor pulley is torque to stock specs which is about 150 ft lbs (sorry cannot remember exactly). As mentioned above you can use the stand on the brake method or make a jam bar or some use impact. I used the jam bar method due to installing quite a few. I can remove the belt on my 1.5 inch belt without pulling the clutch basket. Just soak the belt in very hot water first when putting it back on. IF you do remove the clutch basket you will need a steering wheel puller if it was put on correctly. Those call for the shaft splines to be coated with red loctite. This keeps the splines from washing out. Primo does not call for this but BDL does. Also I watched a 3 inch BDL pulley come off a bike while going down the road due to lack of loctite. Rather impressive to see LOL.
