Rebuilt my front suspension today. Not as bad as i thought for first timer. took 4 hours and out the door, might be too long for a shop but i'm the boss here. Anyways, installed the Progressive springs standard duty, the rebuild kit was from Drag Specialties. I replaced both bushings, stops and neoprene rings on dampers. Didn't care for the spacer that they sent and cut to specs. The spacer length I cut 1/8" long and added a second washer (1/8" thick) which put me at 1/4" over. I didn't like the way the spacer seats in the retaining cup that's why I added the second washer, one on top and one on bottom. I filled the tubes with 12 ounces of 20 weight fork oil (proved to be an excellent decision there) I also snugged up the triple tree bearings. Just a little.
I can't believe the difference in the ride, Stable, Firm and smooth. Never rode a new bike so I don't have anything to compare too. They way it handles at all speeds is amazing. I'm Very happy the upper seal went. Kinda gave me the excuse to do it all...I also Scored a set of Progressive 422 for the rears, new $332.00 delivered. Should be here by next friday. I hope I get the same improvement there. Slowly but surely it's just about completed. Just waiting on the return of my RB pipe.
Monitor the 422's for leaks etc. I went through a couple of sets quickly. Everybody swears by them and I may have just had bad luck. I even had the bolt on one of the ends break while I was far from home and had to ride home with it dragging. The one shock that was still connected was leaking so by the time I got home, I felt like I had been thoroughly flogged. It took me a few days to recover from that.
I will be in the same boat soon, maybe i'll get the same setup as you. My bike rides great for what it is, if it gets better, then I will be happy as a clam. Only looking to repair the leak.
Yes, they are awesome. I only wish i didn't use 12 oz. Of 20 Weight fork oil. I literally feel every nook and cranny in the road...but work real well at higher speeds....
