For belt adjustment, I had mine adjusted with the little tool. My indie guy said it was too tight. Now I run it where he set it. It's run quiet like that for about 10,000 miles. I thought it was too sloppy but, he says that any tighter is incorrect. The evidence would suggest that he is right. My tendency is to over think these things.
OP if you want to try one I have a Hayden m6 and an hydraulic one that I'm not using.
PM me if interested.
Thanks for the offer, that's very kind of you. I'm considering it, the Hayden in particular.
I am curious though, why are you not using either of the auto tensioners.

While many people have had good results with the M6 they are from more northern parts of the world.
Down here in Texas it gets damn hot and it deformed one of the springs.
I called Hayden and they sent me 3 replacement sets of springs.
I gotta say it was great while it lasted but it is just too damn hot down here to run one continuously.
The other is an HB Wedge and I tried it even though it said it wouldn't fit my bike (softail) and it was right.
