Did you notice a power drop? I sure noticed mine when I went to straight pipes. I know 2-1 is best for power, it's basically a header but I guess if it drags that won't work for you.

Not really.
I didn't keep the Samsons on there very long.
Since you do the work yourself, then it's not a big job nor a lot of money to swap a cam. You can always swap back if you don't like it. I'd personally try the EV38 in that case.
As I learned from years of drag racing, eliminating weight makes a huge difference in performance too, don't know if you have anything to work on there.
Way to big for my taste. Gonna be a turd until 4000 rpm.
My friend has a Screamin Eagle 257 in his TC 88. 252/260, 109 usa, overlap 45 degrees. The bike has high HP but at like 5000 rpm. He doesn't like it. I'll see if I can get him to chime in to speak for himself.

On the highway it's going to be doggy until you hit 80 mph...
Since you do your own work, it's easy and not so much money to try. It's too big for me but that's me, not necessarily you.
I've installed, in my humble opinion, too big a cam before (in my 442 convertible) and I know what it feels like and I wasn't happy. It was a big 455 but it got lazy with the cam until it hit 4000 rpm but an Olds can only spin to 5200 like a Harley so a cam that big just didn't make sense. Sounded good though. However, what I like and what you like are not necessarily the same!
One thing for sure, it'll sound awesome at idle.
I do love the sound of big cam. By the way this is a 238/242 cam on a 364ci motor that spins to 7000. That duration's a lot bigger in a 320 ci size motor that can only spin to 5500.
Int 20/36 Exh 51/19 - Duration 236/250 - lift .580"/.500"
They actually recommend their HQ-0028 for strokers with higher compression but it has really late intake closing again, and I don't know why. I would agree with you all the way on keeping the power lower down, Joe_G. The HQ cams aren't so well know but the asymmetric theory looks sound (The idea being exhaust gases only take up about 70% of what intake mix does).
But, me, I don't know about big capacity cams, and so am only asking questions.

EV46 is supposed to be good for more power at higher rpms than the EV27.
I have a friend running that one on a stock motor and he likes it.
I have another friend running a motor build just a little hotter than mine running the 51 and he likes that one.
