Boy, I don't know. They're not as common as Twin Cams but there's a sure a lot of them around here. In Sturgis I didn't count 'em but it would be in thousands of 'em we seen there.

That $150 sounds pretty good.
there's going to be a jell pad about 1/2 inch thick on the seat pan then some foam on top of that, it's not "gel foam". he said the foam will be that multi colored stuff. i thought $150 was a good price. http://www.a1autoupholsteryinc.com/motorcycles.php this is who will do the seat

Plenty in Sturgis maybe, not to many in the Uk that I've seen anyway.

Default What back rest to install

Hi All,
I have a 1989 FLHS. I'm the third owner. Tom end redone and now pushing 194K miles. There was a thread I read about no EVOs used for sale. Hmmm wonder why.
I want to remove the tour pack for a sleeker look. I need to install a backrest for the wife. What hardware and sissy bay do I need ? Also I would like the pad to match the pillow seat. Pulled button type.
Any syggestions ?

Welcome to the forums! Always best to start a new thread to get the answers you are looking for. Tons of great knowledge here. I, however can't direct you to what you need, but there are plenty here that can

Others might be able to help with the hardware. I suspect the backrest you will probably have to have custom made. I don't recall ever seeing one that matches the '85-'91 seats.

Default 1989 flhs

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply. When I took ownership the bike had sat for 5 years. Battery charger and she started right up.
Took it for a good going over. Changed all fluids new brakes and had front fork fluid checked mechanics were amazed how well she runs for the amount of miles. I'm used to the sound of my softale vans and Hines long shots. The 89 is soooo quiet.
Thanks again.
Have to figure out how to start a new thread. Also where can I find parts for sale ?

Our dealer has been superb in having parts in stock for our '86. So I'd check there first. There's also many places online like S&S and JP.

We got our seat back from the upholstery shop this morning and he did a beautiful job with it. What a difference with new foam in it! He didn't use any gel pads or memory foam - just replaced it and put a hard rubber shim on the seat pan on the front of the pillion so the foam has less compression room there to match approximately what it has the back.

My wife sat on it and gave instant approval - "Oh yeah, now this I like!"

If your '89 has the stock mufflers on it you can take them off and look thru them to see if the plugs are still in the baffle. If they are you can knock those out - they're only about the thickness of a frost plug for an engine and not difficult to poke them out with a 1/2" steel rod and a hammer. They are about 1 1/4" in diameter or so.

Not sure how loud you want, as kocking the plugs out of the stock mufflers makes it bark pretty good if you get on the throttle. But it's cheap and lets your Evo breathe. If she has the stock Keihin butterfly carb you'll find that the engine will run a tiny bit lean just off idle after you knock the plugs out. If the idle mixture screw has not been drilled out, or the top not sawed off the boss so you can get to it, you'll probably have to do that so you can turn out the mixture screw a couple more turns to richen it up some with a freer-breathing exhaust. The midrange and main jets seem to be fine - it's jsut the low end when it's feeding off the idle transfer ports where it will be lean.
