What's your Harley worth?
So you really need two figures, a "scientific" one and a real world one.
Does the industry agree on a single way of measuring it?
When did the whole 'hp race' start? Was it by the Japanese when they started to build and race big engines, at first to embarrass H-D and then against each other? I don't remember it as being such a big thing as it is now.
I'll admit to before being initiated into the joys of torque, that we were always amused by H-D's paltry hp figures and, consequently, their refusal to publish them. I gave up on Japanese bikes due to the futility of riding something that did not kick in until way beyond illegal speeds.
Incidentally, Honda may be testing the water. I don't know if any of you were aware of their NC700 project which uses what is basically half of an auto engine. It's dyno sheet is remarkably similar to one we'd recognize.
Sorry, a bit off topic but related to the direction of conversation.
