Default FXRT Fairing Information

Good Evening All,

I am looking at possibly picking up a 1984 FXRT. The owner has changed a few things on the bike and I am trying to get a good feel for how difficult/expensive it will be to get it back to normal.

The PO took off the fairing and put a new headlight on it. I saw photos of the fairing and it still had the headlight bucket in there but was missing the headlight itself. The fairing does not show and mounting bracket either. My question is how many mounting bracket are there for the front fairing? Is it just the one bracket that connects to the headlight bucket and just behind the neck of the frame?

The owner also replaced the rear fender and took off the back but they have all the mounting hardware, original fender and bags.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

With Regards,

Jamesandthejet

Well at least you have all the major, more expensive parts. I know there's at least two or three companies that make aftermarket mounting hardware for your fairing. So that shouldn't be a major issue. That's going to be a real nice bike one day!

Wish you the best with that.

Hi James from the UK and welcome to HDF.

You can take a look at what makes up your bike, fairing etc on an on-line parts website. If you haven't got them yet you will find the factory service manual and parts books invaluable. They are still available through your local friendly dealer.

I would think the only parts still available for that bike at the dealer, are the spark plugs and oil filter. All the online parts places list tons of obsolete parts in their "partsfinder" but wait till you try to order them.

Thanks for the responses. I am still on the fence whether or not I am going to pick it up. Here are some more pictures. He said he would take $5500 included fairing and bags but no mounting hardware and not headlight for the fairing. Also I would want to switch to mid controls so that would add to the list of parts I would need.

Man, I love FXRs in general and FXRTs in particular. I'm also not afraid to do a lot of work on the right bike. And I'd run from that deal. That fairing is close to junk, and the bags look pretty beat (hard to tell). That's a really cool paint set, but when it all needs repainted, what's the point? There's not much stock left on that bike. It's a freaking hot mess of someone "making it their own". Putting it back to desirable will be tough. Mids are made of unobtanium. Heel/toe shifters with good splines are unicorns.

Scrape up 8k or so and buy a nice original FXRT. Hell, make it a Shovel if you like adventure.... You'll be saving yourself money and a ton of time and frustration.

Here's one that sold on Ebay in November. Now THAT'S an FXRT....

Also add to your list...front fender, gas tank and dash...none of those on the bike are correct.
