Default fxr thunderheader mount

anyone have a picture of their non stock thunderheader mount? I just bought one used and it didn't come with a rear mount. I don't want to get the stock one that mount to the V in the frame. I'd like to fab something up that mounts to the trans case so the pipe moves with the powertrain instead of a rubber mount attached to the frame.

I've no idea what a stock thunderheader mount might look like, but the touring bikes all support the rear of their systems with rubber from the frame (well bag frames to be precise). They've been like that for 35 years, so I don't see much benefit of inventing something new!

The balance pipe on our '11 Sporty broke recently, which means I have to dismantle half the bike to repair the stupid thing. That system is entirely supported off the engine and to be blunt it is proving to be a real PIA. Save yourself the trouble and go with KISS.....

I would say mounting to the trans is best for an FXR...you should be able to use a touring trans exhaust bracket to fab something up.

Just of out interest, what is that bolt hole on the back of the frame by the swing arm mounts?

Is that the mounting point supposed to be for an exhaust?

I believe that's there for a sidecar. (I've never seen an FXR with a sidecar, but the frames for the FL vs the FXR are more than kissing cousins in design, and lots of FL's pull them.)

Personally, I'd fab up a transmission bracket mount reaching back to mid muffler. Definitely keep it off the frame!

Never seen one like the one shown..but, that is where the Nasty *** donut was on the early ones...and yes the Company mounted the exhaust there...and yes...it was a bad idea...They even realized it and new FXR's didn't have that dreadful thing.

Mount FXR pipes to the Engine and the Transmission...Only, or I'll be along to tell ya I tole ya so..

This is actually off a Dyna but it points in the right direction

The FLH ones obviously have an addition support under the saddlebags, but they have one like this;

I looked into this for another custom exhaust and I reckoned the easiest way to progress was to pick up a P/N: '65678-85 BRACKET, REAR EXHAUST PIPE', which is only about $20 new (free if you shop wisely), and work off it. Though if you have the time and angle grinder, anything's possible ..

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies everyone. turns out the pipe I got is actually for a softail. I don't think the guy I got it from new any better and I don't think he ever actually had it mounted in the rear. he only had the head studs and a clamp under the nose cone. looks like I'm definitely going to have to fab something up for this one, but I'm cool with that. thanks for the pics, they definitely give me somethjng to go off of. I'll post a pic when. I get it figured out. it could be a little while though, got a new born so the bikes on the back burner for a while.
