Default Gas tank swap

I know someone has probably already asked this but I'm not digging here thousands of post to find it. I have a 85 flthc that I would like to ether find the panels to stretch the tank or maybe swap it to a newer tank that is already streched. If I go with a newer tank will it bolt up to the frame in the stock location or will I need to modify the frame

08 tank on an 83...front mount bolts right up...rear mount needs a nutsert, or weld a nut to the frame...easy.

I also have a recent 6 gallon tank, on my '90. The front tank mounts are wider than the frame, so I used spacers between them, one either side. I installed threaded inserts in the frame, under the seat nose, to hold down the rear. I used a Pingel gas tap plus adapter. You will need the tank trim, as per Tom's photo, plus the stuff underneath, to make the filler hole. You can see the details on-line. Obviously you don't need the EFI stuff that fits inside the tank!

Are you still using the stock or aftermarket seat for that year or did you have to change it out to a different year.

Hi Tom, I'm interested in how you mounted your CVO seat at the rear. Have you retained the rear grab handle and seat mount? Might open up possibilities for my own mods!
