Pretty sure one year only,86ish,HD used latching type switch.Needed to press switch second time to unlatch.Must not have been real popular, next year went to computer module control.
Yes, the 86 has click on, click off, latching switches. The 87 has no latch and you hold it down, and no computer control either, just the automotive type flasher.
I would GUESS that the 86 switches are going to be a bit hard to come by. The badlands module would be the way to go.
my '82 FXRS has that as well. ( have to hold ) well I changed stock signals for something less obtrusive ( signals in license plate bracket ) and then they didn't work at all, unless, you manually pushed button on-off-on-off etc. got a badlands voltage regulator or what ever it was called and problem solved. ( still have to hold button though) so, its sucks but could be worse. like others have said, you can update them pretty simple.
Mike, I suspect your new flashers are LED? That will explain why your Badlands works. To get the features mentioned in here you should find there is an alternative module available, which will work your LEDs and also give you press on, press off, etc.

Yes, he has fitted a Badlands load compensator by the sounds of it...with the Badlands signal module you don't need a load compensator with LED lamps.
Get the module and sell the compensator would be my advice.
yes, Spanners39 I think it was a load compensator. they definitely weren't LED`s this was like, back in the 90`s lol still have bike and it still is working by holding button to flash. bought a 97 softail custom and loved the self-cancelling signals and now have a 06 streetglide with same set-up I think. all three still in my garage
