Default New Digital Dakota Speedometer....

Any one have any info on the MVX 2002 speedometer from Digital Dakota. I went ahead and purchased one and will install when it get's here. I think I got an awesome deal on it. It has a lot of nice features. One being that if you do make gear changes you can reprogram it to read correctly without the use of a programmable speed sensor, it fits in the stock position and I like that it has a tachometer as well. My old one **** the bed again and it's over 150 to replace.

The big thing is I didn't want to ruin my stock speedo by going to fast. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging, period...... but the bike does exceed the stock speedo.

Any ways an user info would be appreciated. Thanx...

Ii put a Dakota Digital speedo in my Esprit (RIP). It was fantastic. You could actually accurately tell how fast you were going. I got the one with a digital readout because the difference between 79 and 81 MPH is about $300. New tires a different size? Just recalibrate it. Push the button, drive exactly one mile, push the button, done.

What did that one set you back? I kinda need one for the chopper.

Believe it or not I got through Amazon and Powersports superstore. Amazon offered a $50 gift card reduction to open an Amazon card and Powersports Price was $367 so total was $317. here's the link. I don't think you'll find it cheaper...

I've been buying car parts on Amazon. Got a fuel pump recently for my 3SGTE RAV4 swap, for example.

$370 is not cheap, but DD makes good stuff. I used to look at their displays in Sturgis at the Community Center. They don't make a dash/gauge set for my FLHT, but I think that set you got would work on my chopper.

It's good for 96-03with 3 wire speed sensor.

I'm pretty sure that's what my chopper uses. The speedo pickup is electrical off the 5 speed trans. My chopper is a chopper, so it is like "1936-present" when you need to figure out what part is on there. There are a lot of late 90's softtail parts, like I suspect the gas tank and gauge set. I think the seat was off a late 80's softtail. Before and after pics are in https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-c...ther-bike.html

So if you have a hall effect sensor and a 4 3/8 diameter mount it shouldn't be an issue for you...

Yeah, that's what my speedo looks like. Except the dash is a different color and odometer LCD doesn't display right.

Those Dakota Digital speedos will trigger off of anything. If you have to, you can get a switch that hooks onto a speedo cable and they will trigger from that. On the Esprit (RIP) I triggered it off the vehicle speed sensor line, which was a pickup on the wheel.

Hey, product idea: The front wheel speedo senders that I have gone through a half dozen over the years, take one of those apart, gut it (remove gears), put a magnet on the spinning part that locks into the wheel by the tab, put a pickup coil in the part that used to have the long gear in it so that the magnet comes near the pickup coil. Run a very small wire up from there to the brake line and on up to the speedo, which you replace with a DD.

Or you can just get one of these.....

Yeah, that's the part that hooks on the cable that I mentioned. I have one. It has problems. Well, it doesn't have problems, but the problem is that speedo cables don't rotate at a perfectly uniform rate. They have tight spots, etc., and that causes the end rotation rate to vary. That caused the DD readout to bounce around too much in the Esprit. It it was directly off the transmission, it might work. If it was going up the fork and into the dash area, it would not work that well. Might be OK with your analog style display, but with the digital one, not so much.
