Kudos
A big thanks to all the generous mechanics, shade tree and otherwise, on this forum.
I've been wanting to change my cam for a while and since the oil seal was leaking, might as well do it all. I'm a big fan of torque, I'd rather be quick than fast. I found a really good price on an EV13 and that's been one of the cams that caught my interest. Granted somewhat against the grain for a Super Glide but even if the cam goes flat at 4800 rpm that's over 100 mph in 5th gear. Faster than I need to go. The install was simple enough with the knowledge I've gained here. My local indy pressed the stock gear on for $10.
It's still a bit cold to ride way up here in sky blue waters land so I haven't done a lot of riding with the new cam. I have gotten out some. Last Sunday was nice enough so I went out for a while. Quickly realized I needed to re-jet the carby. Today I got around to that, 50 pilot and 195 main. Put on about 50 miles and I have to say she pulls way harder than before. No a rocket but damn fast for my needs. I wound her up hard coming down a freeway ramp on my way home. Hit about 50 (well OK maybe more, coulda been 60) in second gear and heard a buzz and vibration. Got into 3rd and got the revs down and all seemed fine. I don't much care for the 6200 rmp rev limiter on the Screaming Eagle ignition the PO put in. No buzz, rattle or odd vibration after that.
So Thanks Jersey John, Spanners, THC, and all the rest of you.
I hope to get a good long ride in this Saturday, that will tell me what I need to know.
