Stop switch question
I have a quick question about stop switches. On my 1984 FXRDG, my H-D FSM seems to show a connection that would disable any starter function when it is switched off...is that true? Because while trying to coax a spark out of my bike, I noticed that I can turn the motor over whatever position the stop switch is in? If that is the way it is supposed to be, it would be like the first motorcycle I have ever owned where that is the case.
Yeah, I'm with glide. Otherwise what's the point of the stop switch? Will it turn the bike off if it's running?
The Orange wire is power to the right grip switchhousing. [By memory, but most are this way] This 12v from Ignition switch thru breaker to run/off switch. Run/Off switch feeds the Starter button as well as the white wire which is 12 v to coil/ignition. The Green wire is generally for the Turn signals.
Yes, stock, the starter should Not run with run/off switch "off".
Unless yours is different than any I have ever seen...which is certainly possible.

Not the way it is supposed to be, but a common wiring mistake...I have had many older Harley's come onto my possession wired that way...easy fix.
