Default Timing cover
Is the Sportster timing cover the same as the early Evo cover with the mounting holes horizontal ?

For questions such as those i would go the the J & P cycle catalog and look at such covers.
The item listing will show the fitment and you will have more solid information.
When you remove the original cover from your EVO big twin you will notice that a replacement will require screws to be on the horizontal for fitment.
Cation if there is any design on the cover.

Factory Evo covers were vertical...if you remove the plate that the cover rivets to, and bolt the cover directly to the cam cover...you need horizonal.

Yeah, I'm looking for a decorative cover with holes at 3 and 9. I was wondering if the diameter of the Sportster cover was the same as an Evo .

The Inner Timing Cover HD part # 32504-80A is the same part used on a 1989 FLHTC and a 1989 883 Hugger
