1996 RoadKing 55k miles. ok what I can best describe as a rattle sounding mostly like a chain hitting. BUT it only happens at 50mph and up AND ONLY when I am veering/turning to the left
This really points to the tire front or rear. Ck the wheel brgs as mentioned.
If you are accelerating into the turn ck the front motor mount bolts for looseness. All of them.
ok several suggestions to check my wheel bearings which might explain the scolloped tire. I'm still
looking for ideas about my rattle. Is there something in the trany, motor or primary that maybe idles or
slides slightly while turning corners?
see my original post for discription of the rattle

It is hard to answer your question about the drive train. There a re too many components involved..
However,
There is only three things that can cause a scalloped tire.
1) bearings
2) hard front braking, consistantly
3) poor rear wheel alignment, making the bike dog track.
A scalloped tire can cause other components on the bike to rattle at higher speeds. When is the last time you cleaned and packed the front bearings. I do mine every winter.....
When I've done my bearings I never back off a full 1/4 turn. I always based the back off amount on the free roll of the wheel. it's a thing you learn from years of servicing....
