CV carbs are great .... but those early ones are problematic because of the lousy float design
get a later one (92+) off ebay and rebuild it with parts from CV Performance... or, send it to Dale at Killer Carbs and he'll do it, and polish it up nicely too

Yeah they get better gas mileage but I could never get mine to run right.
Yes I had it rebuilt by a professional and it helped but didn't fix it.
I put a Mikuni HSR42 on my 98 Wide Glide back in 07. I love the throttle response! It's never leaked fuel. Last year I started having some starting and idle issues so I stripped it, cleaned it and installed a rebuild kit. Good as new. I've never changed jetting from my 1000 foot elevation here to around 9000 feet and down below sea level. The only other issue I remember having was my accelerator pump screw moved so I had to put some thread locker on it.
