Default Carb ID

1985 FXST.......I still have the original carb on this bike.....It's never been apart and has been trouble free for over 100,000 miles. Well the float is sticking this year and the tap on the bowl is no longer working for very long. I figured I'd take it apart and clean it up.
Problem is i have no idea who makes the carb and i need to get a rebuild kit for it.
Anyone know who made the evo carb in 1985? And will i need any other parts when i pull the carb off.....manifold seals etc

Thanks in advance........and if you have any tips please throw them my way

Dont bother with that carb. At least replace it with a 1990 or up CV carb and manifold.

Yup, sound advice but for reference both carbs are made by Keihin....only one of them is worth using though....

Doesn't matter, the CV will make you even happier. The butterfly carbs weren't a great carby from new and when old and wore out they are even worse.

You can still get the rebuild kit for your carb that should come with gaskets, o-rings and other goodies. The intake for the butterfly style really sucked and the compliance fittings are a pain in the a$$ and are known to leak so be sure to check them carefully when you are done.
I changed to a CV this spring and it is like a new motor. It was way more money then a tuning but I feel well worth the $'s and I hid the receipts so all is good.

When I had the CV carb on my bike, I averaged about 50 MPG in all around riding. Sometimes as much as 57 MPG under ideal conditions (downhill, with a tailwind).

Not sure about the mileage, don't have my spedo connected. Sure its down a bit for now because I sure have been having fun.
My butterfly was pretty lunched and by the time I changed it and had an intake leak, I didn't really notice that bad because of the gradual change so not really a fair comparison.
If the carbs are well tuned there shouldn't be much difference, riding style is what will kill you every time.

Great question, do you have any mods done to your engine? The CV will be a little more dependable over your butterfly, both should get about the same mileage. But as you've said, you have been really happy with yours over the years, so is it worth the extra money? You have a great looking bike, I see you have those big 2-into-1's. If you have many more mods done to the engine, or plan to have in the future, you may want to consider an S&S. The CV carb is good for about 90hp before it losses it's ability to breathe. At least that's been my understanding.
