The ratios are and aren't the same depending on the year in question, so you're both right, sort of.


From '84 to '92, all big twins had a 3.38:1 final ratio. In '93 Softails changed to a 61 tooth rear pulley giving them a 2.94:1 final ratio, Dynas and baggers remained 3.38:1. In '94 the MoCo added a tooth to the front primary sprocket on all big twins and reverted to the 70 tooth rear pulley on the Softails, so all '94s had a 3.15:1 final ratio. From '95 to '99 the Softails used a 65 tooth rear pulley for a 2.95:1 final ratio while the other big twins stayed with the 3.15:1 ratio.


This applies to US/domestic models only. International models had different final gearing depending on region.
