Had a question for you all, tried a search but it didn't yield any results. My recently purchased 99 FXR2 has a slight grinding sensation in the shift lever when shifting from second to third. The grind is not audible and is only obvious if the engine RPM is around 3K or higher. If I'm just taking it easy and shifting below 3K RPM, I don't notice it. Third gear is the only one that does it. It does not grind when downshifting. I tried adjusting the clutch push rod and lever free play but it had no affect. I thought about changing the trans gear oil to Redline Shockproof Heavy to see if I can minimize it. I have no idea what is in the tranny right now but I do know it was dealer serviced recently. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks !
Joking aside, when changing gear we only need a token operation of the clutch lever, so adjustment shouldn't be an issue. I do indeed change gear quickly, but that is something I've practiced for decades, on a wide variety of bikes. I take the slack out of the gear lever before operating the clutch and shifting, simultaneously. Doesn't give the darned thing much chance to grind!
It's shot, you should sell it, I will give you fair market value. You can reach me at 517-339-3835.
If you decide to keep it try above advice and then report back.
