Most FXR owners here are probably cringing at the fact that you're even entertaining the thought of putting forward controls on a FXRT.
If you must, at least keep the mid controls or floorboards (if you have them), for when you sell the bike. The first thing I'd do if I bought a RT with Fwd controls, would be to remove them from the bike.
Are you sure the forwards in the link will fit your '84?
If you click on the "Fitment" tab for these on the Dennis Kirk site, it looks to me like the only year FXRT these will fit is 1983, which still had the shovelhead motor.
You might want to call them and confirm they'll fit on your bike before you order.
Just fit highway pegs and save yourself a lot of expense and trouble - as well as causing agony for the more sensitive members in here! Ya don't need no forwards, especially not on an FXRT....
+1 on the highway pegs. Using only mid-mounts or forwards limits you to one seating position. Keeping the mids and adding highway pegs offers a another position which comes in handy over the course of a longer ride. I've got both on my FXR and I can actually operate the shift lever with my feet on the highway pegs.
