Drywall sanding screen at home depot. Tear a strip off and wrap at the knurling. It is thicker than the beer can shim but will compress. Yd
Know this thread is a little older, but the drywall sanding screen was something that I had on the shelf and it worked well. Thanks Yankee Dog ! I have Nash 14" apes on HD 6" spinger risers. The bars are knurled , but the risers are not. The Sanding screen did compress and helps get a better bite on it.
I just saw that this is an old thread but I'll reply anyway for anyone who stumbles in here in the future.
I put some taller bars on my Road King and they started to slip on me. So I scored the inside of the risers with a Dremel. I just cut 5 or 6 shallow lines across the bottom and top of each riser where the knurling of the bars would meet up with it.
I also placed some homemade beer can shims in there for good measure, and never had a slip the entire time after I did it. I think you could get away without the shims though.
Took the bike out and they loosened up again. Plus, the 28 year old risers had 1 bolt that was almost stripped and the others were not far behind. Installed 4 Time Serts and got busy with a hammer and punch to dimple the risers and the caps. Much better now.
