Default Jet Recommendation

So the bike is a 92 FLSTC with a Andrews EV27 cam, a hyper charger, 2 1/4 inch pipes with V-Twin 31-1406 10 inch baffles, stock engine size, stock keihin carb.

The bike currently has a 185 main jet and a 45 slow jet.

The bike seems to be running pretty rich.

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on where to start with the jet sizes.

Thanks.

there are good carb modding and tuning tips in the bike tech section of nightrider.com

the hype charger flows about 150 CFM- compare to the 135~140 on the stock air cleaner. The screaming eagle or ness with oiled washable cloth filter media flow 260 CFM

so what you have is not a large increase in flow- it may also introduce a vacuum leak with it's door system.

I have tuned a few evos including some with that cam, but not with those pipes.

My carbs will have drilled and chamfered slides and the N65 needle.

I often use a 42 slow jet and the high speed jet can be a 175, 180, 185 depending.
The tips at nightrider will help you figure out how to judge what needs doing

I was running a 46/185 with a stock motor, Ness Big Sucker & Rush Racing 6020ST exhaust. After the rebuild with EV27, KB 9.5:1 pistons and head work I'm running 46/195.

Have you adjusted the idle mixture screw? EZ adjust screw and adjusting info is available at https://cv-performance.com/carburetor-parts

I just checked the mixture screw. It was backed out 3 turns from seated. I turned it back in one full turn. Haven't had a chance to check things out since then.

I also just replaced the plugs with some new ones. The old plugs looked like they came straight out of a coal mine.

I got the bike last weekend and the weather has been crap so far. I have just had the bike idling in my garage to check things out. I would throttle her up and she would bog down for a moment and then snap back into place. The more I read about the evo bike, it looks like the jetting might be pretty close to whats in there. It is suppose to be 50 or so on Sunday and I am hoping to get her out and put her through the paces.

That nightrider site is good, but don't drill the slide like it recommends.. Leave the air bleed hole alone. I'm a stock 1340 stage 1, and running 45/175. The numbers being posted are good suggestions for your set up. However, reading your plugs and testing performance is about the best way to get it dialed in. YD

So the previous owner of the bike did something to the top end to make it a top breather. He had some home made breather bolts and put a threaded insert in the head to make the the hole a 5/16-18.

Over the weekend I fab'd up some longer breather bolts and was able to install a Screamin Eagle air cleaner kit from an '08 and up Softail kit.

Took the bike out today for about 30 minutes and she ran great. The only thing I did besides the breather kit was turn in the idle mixture screw one full turn from where it was and put in new plugs.

I pulled the plugs when I got home and they looked perfect. A nice light/dusty tan.

But after the pulling the front plug, it looks like I am burning some oil

The base of plug by threads on the plug had evidence of burnt oil. I started the bike up and sure enough, the front cylinder was blowing smoke out of the pipe on deceleration.

There is a no name thermometer dip stick on the bike. I checked the oil level and it was way above the mark on the dipstick. Now being some no name brand dip stick I am not sure how accurate the mark on the stick is. So now I am the hunt for a stock dip stick to see if it is just way over filled causing the oil issue.

Hello fellow forum folks..

I'm currently running a 4 5/8" stroker, CV40 with a homemade made incognito Stage 1 aibox with a velocity stack and Screamin' Eagle slip ons.

My jetting is a whopping 50 pilot and 195 Main. After my engine is broken in im likely to to go north of a 200 Main. Time will tell....
