Oil gauges are cosmetically nice (I have one) but when your in heavy traffic on a hot day and you see it go to zero man that really gets your head spinning. The good thing is if your idiot light doesn't come on your good to go.. been there done that one dinner in Manhatten......
Which is the pressure relief set at 35 lbs. I just did not know the late model TCs did it. I guess I just assumed it. However, just like the charging circuit. Harley's service manual says to check oil pressure at 2000 rpm where it's suppose to range from 30-38 at 230 degree oil temperature with a 10 micron filter. You do not want it above that especially in hot climates. Bumping it there with the spring to bump idle pressure would open the oil injectors at the piston bases and cook the oil at idle with no cooling wind. Wonder if they have changed that engineering with the wet heads?
^^^This.
While I totally agree that, to the uninformed rider, it can be a source of un-needed concern, knowing what your oil pressure actually is cannot ever be seen as a bad thing; you just have to have enough knowledge to keep it in the right context.
My gauge can read 35# on a cold engine start up. Normally it reads 5 to 8 lbs hot idle, and 21 lbs running dn the road. If it ever does read 0-1 lb and the light is not on then all is fine, and I still have all my head of hair. Just a matter of common since.
One thing a idiot light cant do is tell you your pressure is too high. also it cant tell you that your engine is healthy because it cant tell you that you have 18-21 lbs running dn the road. Im sure someone will straighten me out on that.

Ya don't need the anxiety of checking those sorts of thing every time you ride! Chill out man! In over half a million miles I have never had the need for an oil pressure gauge, regardless of the brand of bike.
