Default Brake Caliper

Lookin for opinions on what to replace the original front brake caliper with. My bike is a 1995 Heritage softail special. It has the original brake caliper on it, buy could definitely use some upgraded stopping power. I have looked at different options but don't really wanna spend $300+ for a new caliper. I saw an adapter to run a brembo out front, but it doesn't say which brembo to use. also saw an adapter to use a brake caliper off a twin cam, but not sure how that will look. not necessarily worried about the looks over performance, but don't wanna re-invent the wheel here either

Performance machine is the best option that I know of.
Yeah it's pricey but way less than rigging your front end to have dual calipers.

FWIW I have yet to talk to anyone who tried one who didn't love it.

I put Wilwood GP310's (4 piston) on my Electra Glide. Very nice.

Mine is a dual setup. With a single, I'd think about spending the bux on a six from PM.

I know it's no fun writing that check, but good brakes are worth it.

The adapter for the Twinkie caliper (cheap to pick up) is a very effective upgrade. Better braking for less than $100. A Brembo upgrade is at least double that.

I put a 4 piston caliper off a twin cam on my 99 fatboy...I had to buy a longer brake line since the adapter bracket lowered the caliper. I had the caliper so my cost was adapter bracket $50, brake line $50, new pads $20, rebuild kit for caliper $15 an brake fluid.

not the best pic but here it is:

There are several routes to improving braking, including replacing the stock rubber line with a braided one and using aftermarket pads. Next is changing caliper, which as langwilliams shows can include changing the line anyway. I have used new aftermarket calipers, which are darned expensive, more recently secondhand Brembos, which are pretty cheap. Not much to choose in cost now between them and the previous H-D 4-piston caliper.

+1 Wilwood rotors as well. An effective upgrade.

Not a huge fan of the newer caliper and adapter. Does anyone know which brembo I would need?

It depends which adapter you use. Even used brembos are expensive. You are better off getting the wilwood caliper. You are going down a expensive and problematic road that would be much simplified by shelling out the two hundred bucks and getting the wilwood four piston brake that is bolt on and go

Didn't you tell me the bleeders on the wilwoods were really hard to get to???
Or am I thinking about someone else??
