Yes, thanks, if that part is what I am thinking it is, that fits in the key hole of the saddle bag frame where the fender strut pins/bolts fit into. Mine are present and intact. I might even have a couple spares. My contact/scratched area is on the strut just forward of that forward mounting pin (right where I mounted that reflector).

If you look on your saddle bags you will see a pronounced metal edge that does a 90* bend or fold. That corner where the fold is seems to scratch the chrome up every time I install or remove the bags unless I am really, really careful. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

I have not installed it yet but the Velcro seems like it will work to act as a buffer to prevent the scratching. It does not touch when the saddlebag is mounted and secure. Just when installing or removing. I also like the reflectors and will leave them in place for now in addition to the Velcro.

As I mentioned earlier, I picked up a set of NOS struts for a good price and want to figure something out before I install them. YD

It hasn't come loose from the back side of my bags, but it has pressure on it since it rests against the axle cover.

I'm at work so unfortunately can't see the pics but from what you describe, darylnj is correct.

If you can't get a hold of the original bushings, try slicing a bit of rubber (or pliable plastic) tubing length ways and slide that over the keyhole edge of the bags where the bush would normally go.

I've had my convertible for about 7 years now and use those bags all the time (they spend more time on the bike than off). In fact, I would love a spare set as mine are showing a little wear but I've never come across a set for sale here in Oz.

Darylnj, thanks. Nothing appears bent. I will take a pic this eve and post it.

Now I am stumped. The reflector is in place and doing it's job, but, would like to eliminate the issue anyways. Or figure out what I am doing wrong, but it was scratched it that spot when I bought the bike used and I have scratched it even more.

FXDX, yes, I find the bags are very handy. I was lucky enough to pick up a spare set a while ago on craigslist for a song. That is what I am using now, a the zipper on my original pair is broken.

I keep saying I will get it fixed but never get around to it. The nylon/cordura is fading a little but I touch them up every couple of years with "fabric dye/paint" and it gets them looking good again. The leather has shrunk a little, but I keep that conditioned on a regular basis. They are hard to come by and expensive when I do see them up for sale. YD

That flexiable magnetic material that's used to make signs for vehicle doors. Cut a strip same width as strut. Put in place when installing bags, then take it off and drop in bag till next time.

google barebacks quick release saddlebags...don't know if the hardware will work for your application or not. I've installed them on a couple of my softails and like them.

I sewed the back of the bags with leather and belt buckles then slots in leather that stay with the bike ,when the bags are on the leather lays on the frame and axle covers, when off you have to look close to see slots.
