0maha - thanks for the tip.
Yes it got new tires (old ones held air, but there was no way I was getting on them).
Additionally (in order of the invoice):
1. 10k Synthetic Service (my grandfather always had synthetics, no leaks)
2. New front and rear brake lines
3. New rear brake disc (you should have seen the rust on that, they tried to save it but no go)
4. New rear brake pads
5. New front piston caliper and seal kit
6. New front motor mount (no idea how that broke, or when)
7. New AGM battery
8. Rebuild kit for CV Carb
9. New petcock
10. New spark plug cables
11. Fuel valve kit
12. Horn kit
13. New enricher cable
14. Rebuilt front and rear master cylinder
15. Ignition switch (this worked OK, but their was a recall out for it and I wasn't keen on having the thing cut out going down the road, which was the reason for the recall. Also wasn't covered by Harley, but what can ya do).
16. Two keys. Had one, but seemed like a good idea to have some spares. Especially with the sharing situation.
So, yeah. Not your typical "just needs a few things" list, but still WAY cheaper than a new bike. Also got a vote of confidence from the service manager who road tested himself, "Would ride it to California". Good enough for us. Yes the labor was expensive, but we both decided it needed to go to someone who had the knowledge and resources to do it right.

Those get rot from time. I replaced mine too, just because I got a new freebie mount. Was surprised when I took off the old one that it was about split all the way through.

Now, point that thing toward Texas and join us at the meetup in a few weeks!!

Since your dad hasn't ridden in 30 years, it's time for him to get some "re-training."
There was a recall on the petcock diaphragm, back in 1995 or so. 2 other recalls but they escape me now. Oh yeah, ignition switch on Dynas.
With only 9000 miles, you've got another 10,000 before the inner cam bearing commits suicide. Replace it before the stocker makes noise.
