There's an in-line fuse on the power feed to the radio inside the fairing. Getting to it is no fun, but I'd bet replacing it will sort out your radio.
Raining cats and dogs here today. Went into the fairing through the headlight after reading service manual. Lo and behold, the 1 amp (really?) blade fuse for the constant power/memory function had blown.
Replaced and now the radio works! Now have to see it if blows when I ride it.
Radio works well, handlebar controls work. Tried a tape (the only one I have) and it went in and started turning but no sound. I ejected it and manually advanced it to ensure I was not at the end, still nothing.
Should I try a head cleaner tape, or just be grateful the clock and the radio work?
September Update. 2000 miles on the bike since it came out of storage, no issues. My aunt just discovered, and sent me a photo of, my grandfather about to leave for a ride in 1997. Photo must have been taken within 3 months of him passing. Great memento to have. (I have the jacket too)
