'96 Heritage. I rode yesterday with no problems. Parked and locked switch, forgot to put switch lid back down, put steering lock on and went in for the night.

Got ready to come to work tonight and would not turn over. The marker light on the front fender came on also the speedometer lit up but no neutral light no headlights and would not turn over.
Battery is only about 6 months old and I've not had any trouble before this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Update;


Came home, still dark outside and turned switch on and had no front marker light but had taillight still no headlight or neutral light so I checked blinkers which didn't work earlier now work so I tried the kill switch, nothing, tried the high beam, nothing, tried the horn and lo and behold it blew, the headlight and neutral light came on and the bike turned over.


So I'm pretty sure I have a ground issue. My question now is are there more ground connections other than the battery and the two ground connections to the frame under the seat that I need to check and clean?

 

You have no power worthy of the name and no choice IMHO but to charge your battery first and see if it will hold a charge. I've had a 6 month old battery blow a cell and die. See what happens when the battery is fully charged. It's best to remove it from the bike and use a proper charger, not a tender or trickle charger.

 

We were writing at the same time, but my suggestion regarding the battery holds. Start analysis from a known position - electrical stuff does not heal itself!

 

This! Although, as you noticed, sometimes the battery will recover a bit of charge and seem to "heal" itself. Yeah, sounds like a battery/charging issue to me as well.

 

Thanks guys. I had the battery checked, it was good. I actually think the ground was loose at the battery but I cleaned and tightened all the grounds under the seat and it's starting as it should.
