Engine removal question
Just a thought, Would I be wise to possibly do a new bottom end and just attach my heads and jugs? Does S&S sell something you guys would recommend
Any motor that has had that much damage is going to have wasted jugs. Rod bearing going out will make the piston wear against the walls much more. By the time you bore it out oversize to fit new pistons, rebuild the heads, etc., you are not going to save anything.
I think your choices here are: Fix what you have (TIG, etc., by a good shop that knows Harleys), or see what the "rebuild" options are from S&S, or buy a new motor, and S&S is the way to go for that. Some people have gone Ultima, and some of them (maybe more than "some") have had issues. Ultima seems to have stood behind their product in the last reading on here, but personally, I would spend the few extra bucks up front and go S&S if I was going that route.
Note that a shop rebuilding what you have will probably cost as much or more than just buying a motor, "rebuilt stock-ish" or the monsters, from S&S.

Hadn't checked into this thread for a while, and just noticed the pics. Yipes!
Personally, it's my opinion that anything in that motor that touches oil needs to be rebuilt/replaced, so there's probably not a lot to be gained financially by trying to salvage the top end.
There may be someone willing to take a shot at repairing that left side case, but that one sure looks like a goner to me.
Sorry to see this. What a shame.
Edit: Dr. Hess and I cross posted. He said it better: Even if you could rebuild what you have, you're to the point where you'll be money ahead just buying a new motor from S&S. The 111 is $5k. Hard to think you could get yours rebuilt for that. And even if you did, you still wouldn't have a 111!!!

Edit II: The S&S rebuild program starts at $3,500, but that assumes that your crank and cases are usable. Getting yours done would exceed the cost of the 111.

Dr Hess and Omaha, Thanks for making me face the reality of what my situation is. I was hoping to get around dropping the 5000 for a motor.
I can see the cost to repair the old motor just does not make sense, and buying a used motor could end up put me in the same boat I am in now. At least with the new motor everything would be new and guaranteed..Thanks for the help

I'd check ebay and call some local indy shops. I was looking for an evo motor to tinker with and I bought a complete running motor for under a thousand bucks. It will be in a project someday.
The motor I found was out of a softail that the indy shop put a big cube s&s in. These motors are out there, I'd be making some calls if it was me.

Used Evo motors on eBay run around $2,500. If you buy from a commercial bike wrecker, you'll usually get a 30 or 90 day warranty, which may or may not be worth much.
So, maybe you end up with a good motor that runs another 100k miles. Or maybe you end up with a shagged out POS that dies in a year. Pig in a poke.
Another thing to consider is that with the price of used bikes being what it is right not, you could probably find one to replace yours for about what you'd spend putting in that 111, not even considering that you could probably get $1,000 or $1,500 for what's left of yours. Of course, that would be another pig in a poke, and that decision has a lot to do with your opinion on the condition of the rest of your bike.
Good luck, which ever way you decide to go.
Where you at in Kansas?
Thought maybe I was loosing my mind for a moment !!!! And you guys were ignoring the massive crack I posted about,no professional but would never ride in peace if I decided to repair that case and rebuild the rest of the motor, buy a used evo and go through it,thank god you guys found the zoom button,lol...
That's one of those toughies.

Love going to the NHRA drags down there! There is nothing like the look on your grandson's face the first time he hears a top fuel roaring down the track!
