Well you didn't mention which oils you've tried, stay away from synthetics, 20/50 or 50 conventional valvoline is what I recommend.
^^^ This is good advice. Spectro 25-60 conventional oil is another. Syn oils just make things sound looser.

Well that is a good choice of oil also so this I will add. Based on the very low mileage on motor I'm thinking you need to find the noise location. It is a possibility that a lifter is failing but not likely, did someone put in some adjustable rods in there and one has come loose or not adjusted correctly. Maybe there is accessive end play in the rocker. Could even be rocker shaft tick that is fixed with the rocker locker, but not likely that either. Need to locate sound with a long driver in the ear while touching different valve train locations then report back....
Like Kevin said, use a stethoscope or something similar and put it to each push rod tube to see which one is loudest. Then open up that push rod tube to see it you have adjustables or not. If you do reset the preload to .130" if not replace the lifters. Make sure you take a good look at the cam lobe when in there.
The Evo rocker assembly is a pretty solid one and can take a lot of abuse. I doubt your problem is there... TC's are another story though......
How do you tell if it has adjustable pushrods is it by looking at or opening the tube up?
I'll check out you tube tonight when I get home.
Yes pop the upper clip and pull the lower sleeve up if you see a threaded rod with a couple nuts, it's an adjustable... If it's a smooth bore tube, it's the stockers...
If it's been doing it since new it sounds like the cam, pinion, breather gear mesh is too loose. I have heard it several times. It crawls up and sounds like a lifter or upper end knock. You will need to find the next size pinion gear. Then you take the chance that when you do you will end up with a severe gear whine. It's my opinion that some cases made in good Ole harley plant are so out of tolerance you cannot get them right. Sometimes you could go bigger cam gear. It's a crap shoot. I know harley does not want to tackle it, I have seen 3 cases where the bike when new had this problem and neither of them were resolved by motor co.
I checked and my pushrods are stolid rods.
I got the bike when it was 15 years old with 5300 miles on it and it has 11800 on it now.
To me there was a tic and tuner said he thought one was bad and might be going out and it's a tad louder now after the tune.
My sister has a friend here in town that has 3 bikes and does all his own work on them so
I'm going to go over with my bike and see what he say about it. Plus talk to him about a
cam for mine.
Think a can and change lifters and the rineharts slipons I'll be good. For a while.
