My engine started slightly knocking about 2 months ago. I tried to diagnose the noise with no sucess. AT first the noise seemed to be in the top end. I changed the lifters, rocker arms, and pushrods all to no avail. Then the noise seemed to change with a loud knock on the bottom. So I trailered it to a mechanic that was highly recommended to me. He listened to it and took the oil filter off and bronze silt came out. He said the crank is gone. So, I brought it back home and pulled the engine and took it back to him. I got to take a look at it yesterday all apart. The crank bearings were shot, cylinders scored, and pistons toast. He should have it done in a couple weeks and Im goin to bring it back home and put her back togather, then let him start and tune it. Im sick since the engine went, but on the other hand excited about gettin her back togather.
Wow, a toasted motor. Bum luck man, I hope she gets back to you quickly and better than new.
I'm curious, from your prior posts I assume that this is the '99 you've been writing about, correct? If it is, back in May you said you had 44k on it. Ask your wrench if he knows why a motor with such low mileage would look on the inside like one with 100k+ on it. Something doesn't smell right to me, particularly for a well-maintained motor like you said it is.
Anyway, sorry about your troubles. Hope you're back on the road soon and without breaking the bank.
Putting some kind of computer balanced crank assembly in it,Boring it 20 over, puting wiseco pistons, ev27 cam, porting the heads and some other mods he was talkin about. He recommends thunder monster baffles in my straight pipes. He said that balanced crank assembly will be sweet and eliminate alot of vibration. I had run amsoil in it every 5k. He said in an evo he recommends changing it every 2500. He said he really didnt know why it went so early... I figured it went because its mine haha.
Just make sure he puts Torrington cam bearings back in. I have a friend who did a build on a 2003 RK and it just blew the cam bearings and the needles toasted the whole motor. I don't think he replaced the stock bearings.
