Default EV59 Cam

ok so in my quest for more power, I have been looking at different options from stroking my 80" to an 89", to just changing pistons for more compressions. The bike currently has an EV3 cam with a Mikuni HSR42, Ultima Single Fire Ignition, and Vance and Hines big shot longs (the one that has a crossover). The bike runs good, but I want it to have more. I do have an EV59 sitting on the shelf that is calling my name to be used. If I do run this cam, I know I have to change the springs and collars in the heads, do I need to do anything else to run it? also what compression do I need to run with this cam If I do change it? how will she run with the EV3 if I just bump the compression from the stock 8.5:1 up to like 10:1?

P.S. My bike is a 1995 Heritage Softail Special.

That's a lot of cam for an 80 inch motor.

Indeed, might be said to an act of unkindness to the engine, to fit it!

We have access to expertise these days that wasn't available a few years ago, even for our ole Evos. Firms like Hillside Cycles can work wonders on our engines using modern cams and port profiling, to give great performance, using proven packages. Would be worth calling Scott there and talking through things with him. If you prefer simply swapping cam and pistons, check out the cam manufacturer's website for those details, where you should be able to find info on springs, lift clearance etc.

Yea, that Cam will need a lot of compression 10.8:1 not only new Pistons but extensive head work.... Lift@tdc is huge and could create a valve to valve issue....

I just picked up a '98 road king that had a fresh rebuild with that cam in it. Runs 10.5-1 compression and runs really good. It's a little soft on bottom, but drop a gear and that thing rocks pretty good. Don't know if I would run it on a full dresser, but if you don't mind running a little more rpm, it works good. It loves to run about 80.
