Default Rider backrest fitament

Hi Guys,

Did my first 200+ mile ride last weekend (ok, it was 201 miles). Got to thinking a rider backrest might be a nice addition.

I have the correct part number for 1994 (52530-88B) which I see evolved and finally ended at 52530-88F. I have a thread in the WTB section for that, plus I'll check ebay regularly. Looks like this, with the spring loaded support bars:

When the bike came out of 20 years of storage, there was a backrest in it but I believe it was from an older bike. Looks like this, solid bars:

Does anyone know the part number for the mounting kit for the older backrest and if it will fit a 1994 so I can use the one I have?

If I can find a spring loaded backrest, I can just buy the current mounting bracket from HD. I could also buy a new style backrest, but they are much sleeker now and wouldn't match the "pillow style" seat and passenger backrests that I have.

Thanks!

According to my 1994 Parts and Accessories book: 52530-88B is the part number for the kit. The kit would include the mounting bracket and the backrest. Harley doesn't show a separate part number for just the mount. Which is typical of The MoCo for accessories, as they don't sell individual parts from complete kits.

I have the rider backrest on my 93 FLHS. The solid bars would be the correct unit. I've used it once, and found it not that comfortable, as it pushes me too far forward up onto the tank. Could be that the seat on the FLHS is lower than the FLHTC/U.

Interesting. The HD website says this will fit my bike, but I had disregarded it because it looks like the holes are there for the spring loaded backrest (height adjustment).

Now that you've mentioned that the solid bar backrest is correct for 1993, I'm wondering if the rectangular cut out where the bars get inserted is to accept the older style solid bars too... For $44, maybe I'll just get and see what happens. The installation instructions do have provisions for 1994 models etc.

Thanks Hackd.

I'd give it a shot. At the worse, you've got to make a trip back to the stealership and get a refund.
