I really lost myself this weekend
And yea, crap ton of wire. I'm not cutting it though in case I use it in a vehicle some day. Ultimately that's what it's designed for.
Seriously though, had a couple little hiccups in the last few miles tho. I discovered a primary leak in a weird location. There's one bolt for the inner primary that requires a blob of RTV on the back side of the bolt and washer to keep oil from migrating out. This bolt is at the 6-oclock position behind the clutch basket and constantly submerged in oil. Warm oil = fast drips, cold oil = slow drips. RTV stopped it dead!
Also I think I had a grounding issue. Unless the bike was hot the starter would just click. Using the solenoid plunger made quick work of starting it, but this always bugged me. This weekend I took apart all the grounds, sanded the paint off the frame in that location, moved a few accessory grounds off the battery to the frame, and so far so good. Time will tell tho. I also bought a new battery a couple weeks ago.
And I got rid of them **** Rivera pushrods for some of Smith Bro's finest custom length pushrods:
Valvetrain is much quieter now, and I never have to worry about a locknut backing out again.
I still haven't been on the interstate for an extended amount of time yet though. I ordered a couple 14mm thermocouples for mounting under the spark plugs but still waiting for them to come in from China. (Before you jump my *** here, $36/ea from an airplane hobby store, $6/ea from eBay-China, kiss my *** Capitalism). Once I get them installed I'll slowly hit the interstate to make sure things are not getting too hot, then adjust ignition accordingly. Once it's all dialed in and not going to pop I'll put all my temperature values (cyl. head temp, exhaust temp, AFR) up here for reference so the next time someone takes on a tuning project like this there's a reference point.
