To be honest, I don't know yet what I need to fix/ replace. I need to take a look to see what went wrong. I am hoping the spring broke in there. My shift levers just went limp.
Sorry to hear that! It would have been simpler to tell us that up front. If you lift the lever up to it's normal position, does it stay there? If so the 'positive stop' mechanism is fine and your return spring has broken. That's not uncommon (I've suffered it too), but is a five dollar part which can cost 500 dollars labour to replace! However that is likely to be cheaper than replacing your tranny, which will take even more labour.
You need to take a deep breath and step back a little, you are jumping the gun...
You don`t have to replace a transmission just because it needs to be repaired...
These assemblies are built with replaceable parts, you simply disassemble the transmission, find the problem and fix it.
First disconnect all the shift linkage and make sure it moves freely.
Check the lever at the transmission, see if it moves back to its center point after you move it.
If the shift lever does not spring back to its centered position, remove the top cover from the transmission and take a look at the spring and shifter pawl, they will be on the left side of the transmission.
Nothing will fall apart when you remove the cover...
