My pressure at idle went from 8lbs to about 15lbs, maybe a touch more. Not sure what it is now, I removed the gauge and haven't replaced it yet. That was at the tappet screen.

knuckle pans and shovels have an oil light, the light pressure switch turns the light on a 3 to 4 pounds idling hot and many older machines it will blink at idle, its not a car engine

the introduction of hyd lifters in the 1950s on to 1972 took priority oil pressure, and part time to the lower unit and the top end was secondary oil pressure

in 1973 to 1984 they made an attempt to up grade the system, but still the lower unit was not primary with oil pressure and no one has tried to make it primary

very few shovels will not smoke with 15 pounds of oil pressure at hot idle - a miracle has to happen to keep them from leaking with that much pressure and volume

but they do have over 100 pounds cold for a few minuets - reinventing an engine design 30 plus years after the last one was built might be a mistake

evos on the other hand want more as they have a car type hyd lifter and they are not primary pressure to the lower unit as well, evo switch comes on at 6 to 8 pounds

I run the S&S oil pump, it's gears are about 1/4" wider in depth than a stock pump. Took the Ultima pump apart also and it is identical inside compared to the S&S, the Chinese copied it to a tee.

Does the S&S HVHP have a polished cover, or is it chromed aluminum? I hope its the first, but fear its the last...

It is polished. Believe it says so in the description... Chroming an oil pump can lead to clearance issues down the road..

Due to the high volume output, there will be more oil fling of from the big end towards the barrels. Good for cooling and lubrication, but did anyone notice an increase of oil consumption with these pumps? In other words, do the oil scrapers manage to get rid of the extra lube?
