Default top end vibration

Hey all, got a 98 WG. I'm not sure if I just never noticed it before but it seems when I reach the power band of each gear i get a pretty good vibration (e.g 20mph, 30mph 40, etc). And it vibrates pretty good around 60 but smooths out at 70. I don't have a tach so I cant tell if its just at a certain rpm, but sound most likely. My buddies rode behind me and told me everything looks fine, swingarm etc. Spokes feel tight. Motor mounts don't appear to be worn or broken. Any ideas or is that how evo's are? When it get to vibrating it feels like my solid mount sporty.--Joey

My 98 wideglide vibrates when lugging the engine. Like slowing down and time to downshift or if I shift to early on getting up to speed. Your bike is telling you where it is more comfortable. I always lean toward higher revolutions than lugging. No I do not rev so high to activate the rev limiter. When running at a steady speed I have found that my bike likes the following.

Below 55 4th gear
Below 45 3rd gear
Below 30 2nd gear
Below 15 1st gear

Actually it does ok at low rev. it's when I'm reaching the top of the powerband in each gear is when it does it, but I have been told that maybe it is just how it runs. I was just trying to make sure seeing as I will be heading to Louisiana this Thursday. Thanks for the reply.--Joey

Well after a lot bourbon and a little bit of thought. I came to the conclusion that I'm just gonna shift sooner and keep it above 65 in 5th, cured all my problems. Guess I'll find out on the road thursday, taking a trip to Louisiana, should be a good one and the farthest I've taken this bike.

Keep it above 65 in 5th gear? There's something bad wrong if you have to do that. There's so many things that could cause vibration; missing wheel weight, failing tappet, yadda yadda yadda. Probably need to take it to your trusted indy shop to diagnose.

I figured it out, I had a loose front exhaust mount. Once tightend it was good.
