upgraded fairing
how hard is it to replace a 1992 Electra Glide Classic fairing with one from a 96 to 04 and also change the handlebar controls so I could install a newer radio system
We owners of older bikes have a duty to prove that our bikes can be all things, so while there are challenges to what you want to do, nothing is impossible! You won't be able to swap things over in a blink and are likely to need to do some diy. A simple example is that your bike has a front-wheel driven speedo, whereas the later years you mention have an electronic one, so something has to give there. Our older bikes also use different electrical connectors to later models, so some adaptation will be necessary to match new with old.
Hopefully more knowledgeable members will be along pdq! I'm sure 'we' can do this....

There's no reason you can't upgrade your radio without upgrading to a newer style fairing. I did it in my '94 and it was a breeze. I used the Biketronic kit to allow the hand controls to work and bought their mounting bracket as well. Good stuff that works and they replaced my unit free when it failed. It can be done in the afternoon.
There are also other sources but I don't have any first hand experience with any of them.

You are correct. Obviously discontinued.
I've thought about this very thing, just been to unmotivated to jump in. The changing of the newer connectors to the old wiring should be doable. I would like to think with the two appropriate schematics this could be pulled off.

you could change your handlebar controls to the newer 97 and later style and keep the original fairing and go with a newer radio that can interface to the later controls. piece of cake that way.....and yes I'm a 12volt wizard, did it for 23 years.
