Default Upgrade to Newer Fairing?

Anyone ever attempt to upgrade and install newer fairing? If so, how hard is this to do?

I'm rebuilding a 95 FLHT. I'd like a newer fairing for fact I can change gauges windshield etc.

Any ideas?

I can speak from experience. It can be done, but with exceptions. The first thing you should do is get a Harley Part Catalog for the year you want to use. I suggest getting the 1998 catalog. This way you have information if you decide to upgrade the radio to the one that Harley used from 1998. It eliminated the CB under the Tour Pak. But you will have the information you can use to up grade your's.

I changed the entire fairing system on my 1989 Ultra to the 1998 Ultra. This included the radio and wiring. The 1995 model used the same inner/outer fairing that was on my 1989. It was used until it changed in the 1996 model year. And is still in use on today's models. You have a 1995 so it appears you are better off than I was. The mounts and fairing will bolt up to the holes. You are already using the newer Ignition switch. So you will just need the parts associated with the newer inner/outer fairing.

I changed the entire fairing Interconnect harness, gages and instruments. If you wish, you can use the original gages but the tachometer and speedometer will need to be changed. If you want to go with the electronic speedometer, you can modify the transmission case to accept the speedometer pick up. Or change the entire transmission. I bought a new speedometer that was cable driven.

Like I said, I did it, but I bought part catalogs, service manuals and studied what to do. I went to dealers and friends to look at their bikes. I searched eBay and other places and took pictures for reference. (This was over 6 years ago and I don't have the bike, or pictures any more. Just memories)
It took me 6 months to complete the transission from start to finish. The actual time working on the bike was about 2 weeks. This included taking the bike down to the bare frame. But I had everything ready to change everything.

Good Luck.
