Default Lowering an Electra Glide Classic

Hey. I would like to lower the rear end of my 1988 Electra Glide Classic. I have read a number of threads which have made me think twice about lowering blocks. I also came across the idea of flipping the swingarm over to lower the bike. Are there any opinions on this method? Thanks for any help.

Interesting question on flipping the swinger. I know that is possible on shovelhead frames front the seventies, at least.
nothing to add but I'm interested in this.

the last thing i would do is flip the swing arm. you would be putting all the weight of the bike in the upside-down shock mounts. if the welds break or the steel starts to tear it could get ugly.

There's an outfit I came across that will take your stock shocks and rebuild and shorten them. It might have been Bitchin Baggers (http://phoenixcustoms.com/). There site is down, but I recall the costs were around $100. Sorry I don't have exact company name. I did not use them. Instead I used a set of lower blocks. I understand some fear that it creates a weak point in the swingarm. So far (5,000) miles, I've had no issues.

How much are you wanting to lower it? I have 12" air shocks and a C&C custom seat on my 88' FLTHC. Got 1" from the shocks and about 1" from the seat.

2 inches would be nice. It's not easy to find seats for these bikes tho.

I too went with the lowering blocks as well, and just didn't feel comfortable about them. I sent them back. I went 2 1/2" lower from stock. I bought the Burly Brand 10 1/2" slammers. Bike looks good, (I have more foot to ground control) but.......... a lil stiffer ride. and she scrapes sometimes when I hang a turn leaning a lil too much. (a learning curve but I got it). I love'em. I don't know how low ya wanna go, but these worked for me.
