Default What are realistic hp/tq numbers for a 80 with a cam?

I have my 99 FXR2 with a SE3 cam, Bassani Road Rage pipe and S&S stealth AC. When the shop put the cam in, they sent it to a tuner who gave me the chart below (#1). 75/89 - Nice numbers, but seemed high for a 80 with nothing but a cam.

Then I replaced the loud baffle with a “quiet” baffle and got a couple pulls on a local Dyno which gave a nicer curve, but a substantial drop in numbers... 65/75. Talking to Bassani, they said it seems unlikely they baffle change resulted in a 10/10 drop.

So, not knowing enough about EVO’s, I’d like to know what a typical 80 will make with just a cam and pipe/ac.

Thanks.

chart 1(questionable?)

Chart 2 (more realistic?)

Harley makes their engines way under tuned, that is less than one Horsepower per cubic inch.
A good running engine will produce 1,25 horsepower per cubic inch.
That is the most simple way to look at it.
There are engines that will produce way more, but they are not Harley platforms unless you want to consider
the 1/4 mile crowd.

Thanks, but looking for actual Dyno results for a a 80ci evo with nothing but a cam and exhaust and no other mods. Not theory.

#58 pilot/slow jet? Is that right (hand written on the first sheet)? I'm running a 48 slow with my 80 incher with a EVL3010.

Interesting thread, I was wondering the same thing and was thinking about 75 for horsepower, gonna follow this thread. YD

I haven’t opened it up to look, but I think it’s a misprint and he probably meant .48.

Looks like you used two different dynos. Different dynos and different operators can cause the numbers to be different.
Looks way rich on the second dyno, that is probably the bafflle

Actually I can believe a 10/10 drop going to a quiet baffle. That baffle severly restricts air/fuel mixture flow just from the back preasure created. I have a FXR with a V&H super trap 2-1 with no baffle. I get putting the baffle in. Mine makes my ears ring for days if I do not put ear plugs in. I love loud, but wow this one is abit over the top.

There's a thread bouncing around on this forum with some posts of dyno numbers, but to be specific, it's going to be tough to match up identical setups.

My 93 FLHS, when dyno'd with an EV27 cam, tuned CV carb, SE air cleaner, Dyna 2000 ignition, SuperTrapps with 18 discs, and mild 'street ported' heads: 75hp/80tq with air cleaner. 77hp/82tq with air cleaner off. Ambient air temp, humidity, operator experience all play a part in the resulting values. Dyno's are really good for 'dialing' in air/fuel ratio, so that's why I like having a bike tuned on one. Again operator knowledge/expertise is essential.

I've since changed out the dual SuperTrapp slip-ons, to a ThunderHeader. I haven't had the bike dyno'd yet, but it does 'seem' to run a bit stronger. EVO's seem to really like 2-1 exhausts.

Your 2nd graph is more realistic with what you have installed.
In order to get those #'s in the first graph, you need a big increase in compression.
I first started with an S&S carb/ V&H staggered duals./Dyna ignition & a EV-13 cam & got #'s like your 2nd graph.
Gotta bump the compression up or stroke it to get more torque.

Ride Safe,
Harold
