I have had the S&S 111 for one year now and time for a review. I bought the long block that is minus the carb and ignition and is more designed like the original Evo head breather. Breaking in the engine used a little oil but as everything settled in it now does not use oil. The S&S E carb is jetted at .031 and .078 and the plugs are a nice flat gray with no signs of pre ignition at 9.8 to 1 Cr.
I did bore out the head breather banjo ports one size larger to tame the extra crank pressure. { Note, oil dip stick would pop out occasionally }.
Im getting 40 mpg in the mountains or around town even with my playful throttle, Normal driving would get closer to 45 mpg.
Engine has all the power I will ever want and more. Im very pleased after one yr and don't see any problems except back tires wear down faster but that's more my fault. It also eats M8 for breakfast.
Something that crosses my mind lately is the bigger cubed engines with moderate compression are such a dual threat in everyday riding and can pull thru anything thrown at it when needed.
Lucky you!
If you do the math, one would be foolish to buy an M8 when you can bolt in one of these beasties!?
Apart from ABS, gas mileage and EPA, why would you need to go for a newer bike?
You keep the real harley heartbeat, the real softail frame, plus have an allmost indestructble bike!
One question tho.. How's the gearbox holding up?
S&s engines are expensive but sure worth tge money.

The tranny is stock with about 42k mi on it and its like a new one. I do not slam the power or drop the clutch but go thru the gears with smooth power trying not to rip my belt off. Everything in the primary is new with Barnett Scorpion, also new engine mounts all installed with new engine. Mighty fine 97 WG.
