I’ve been noticing a metallic clacking sound when shifting down to first, and almost coming to a stop. Sounds like it’s coming from front of primary. Like chain slap or sumn. Slack in chain is good. Still have the manual tensioner.
Does it once then wont do it again till coming to a stop in first.
Put a socket on it with it in gear and rotate it back and forth.
If it goes real EZ its shot ( B4 tacking up the slack) . The spring has lost tension or dogs wore off.
Or both.
You take off and apart and look at the dogs
The aftermarket ones (Chinese) will not last 5K miles.
Don't buy it they are junk.
Or you can run without a compensator, buy the sprocket thy omits the comp. .
Several vendors sell them and Harley used to. I am not sure if they carry them anymore.
Or, convert to a belt.
